(HealthDayNews) -- Medication, exercise and a proper diet can combine to effectively treat high cholesterol. Here are some cholesterol-cutting tips, courtesy of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
- Eat less fat.
- Read the ingredients on packaged foods. Avoid foods that list any of these among the ingredients: lard, beef fat or hydrogenated oil of any type.
- Avoid food that has more than 15 percent total fat.
- Don't eat more than six ounces of meat or seafood a day.
- Choose lean cuts of meat.
- To boost your good cholesterol, exercise more often, and quit smoking.
