Health Tip: Don't Smoke During Pregnancy

Here's how it can harm the baby

(HealthDay News) -- If you smoke while you're pregnant, you're exposing the baby to a host of harmful chemicals, including carbon monoxide, tar and nicotine, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says.

The ACOG says smoking during pregnancy can lead to these medical problems:

  • An ectopic pregnancy.
  • Bleeding.
  • Complications with the attachment of the placenta to the uterus.
  • Stillbirth.
  • A baby with a low birth weight.
